Officials' Comments

Organiser - David Lumby david.lumby@thomasmiller.com

I hope you all enjoyed finding paths under the autumn leaves in Chalkney Woods. From what I heard the courses were enjoyed and appreciated and I know a lot of hard work from Steve went into presenting the appropriate challenge on each course. Most of you managed to finish in the dry.

My thanks to Sally Tippett at Lambert’s Farm for making the parking and indoor space available. The registration, download and cake stall teams all appreciated having a roof over their heads. Thank you also to the willing band of SOS helpers who made the event possible, particularly those whose roles were shuffled at the last minute to fill gaps in the roster. Finally thank you to Sally Wilkinson for her efforts in the lead up to the event and for controlling on the day. You deserved your coffee and cake after checking all was in order.

Planner - Steven Partridge.

I enjoyed planning in Chalkney again. It is a lovely place, a delight at any time of the year, and looked particularly lovely with the autumnal leaves carpeting the ground. It was wonderful to be able to get the longer courses into the now more runnable eastern side of the wood and I hope those of you that went over there enjoyed the experience. I tried hard to make sure there was a good degree of technical difficulty appropriate to each course so I do hope those on the TD5 courses felt suitably challenged.

I enjoyed working with Sally on her first time as Controller. It was a very collaborative and positive process working on the courses and we were both pleased with the final outcome. Thanks also to David for his calm and good humored organization.

Thanks to all the volunteers that helped out throughout the planning process and on the day. A huge thank you must go to Kevin Machin who worked hard on updating the map including several last minute tweaks. He managed to deliver all this despite my keeping him in the dark about the control sites!

Controller - Sally Wilkinson (SUFFOC)

As a first time controller, I found Steven as planner and David as organiser both very good to work with. There is so much to bear in mind when planning and organising an event and they were both calm and good humoured which definitely made me feel more at ease. I thought the courses were very well planned with the yellow and light green offering a good amount of challenge in particular. The blue took those wanting a long run to most of the wood twice and yet competitors said they didn’t find either part similar. Several on the short green and green courses commented on how lovely it was to be off the paths and experience some really runnable deciduous forest. I hadn’t been to Chalkney for several years and can see how the maturing trees are helping to make this an even more pleasant place to run. I look forward to coming back soon.
