Summer Series, event No. 1
The Hedinghams
Wednesday 29 May 2019

As part of our 50th Anniversary celebrations Essex Stragglers return to the Hedinghams, the venue of one of our very first events almost 50 years ago. There's an interesting mix of complex little alleyways in the medieval village centre, modern housing estates, open areas and country paths. There is plenty of route choice.

All welcome. Guidance for beginners available.

Courses
Long 7.1km.
Short 3.8km.
The shortest route will be a little longer.
A mixture of street orienteering and country trails. The long course visits both villages.
Both courses will cross the main A1017 with regular traffic flow although the speed limit is 30mph.
The controls will be fire hydrant signs (Yellow with a large ‘H’). You will be asked to record the number in the bottom half of the sign. Please bring a pen or pencil.

Map and terrain
1:10,000 OpenStreetMap.
A complex street network, linking footpaths, cycle ways, green lanes and country footpaths which may be muddy in places.

Car parking
Sible Hedingham Parish Council free car park behind the co-op and on residential roads. Turn off the A1017 Swan Street along Summerfields. The car park is situated on the left hand side before the junction with Spring Way. Nearest postcode CO9 3SW, Grid reference TL782340, Google Map.

Times
Registration in the car park between 6.00pm and 7.15pm.
Starts between 6.15pm and 7.30pm.
Competitors must report to the finish by 8.30pm.

Fees
£3 seniors and groups, £1.50 juniors (under 21) and students.
Second run free for those fit enough.

Safety
