Organiser’s Report

Thank you to everyone who came along to the third event in the ‘Back to Orienteering’ summer/autumn series. We had a record number of entries with a total of 43 entrants, 15 on the short course & 28 on the long course.
It was a lovely warm evening, and many commented on how lovely it was to run on the roads & trails of Danbury. The ‘home-made’ hydrant signs were well received – and with the exception of control 5 (placed at the base of a wooden seat), these were found a bit easier than some of the ‘real’ hydrants.
A few people had problems getting to control 1 – actually getting onto the right track in the first place. Unfortunately, the map doesn’t clearly show the open spaces as well as it could (and also on the Common, not all of the paths were shown which is slightly confusing).
The other ‘problem’ was on the way to control 9, the route would ideally have been through the children’s playground. Many runners saw the big padlock on the gate and assumed that it was locked – if they had pushed the gate it would have opened, as confirmed by the last runner on the course!
Congratulations to Allen Smalls – who was first home in the Long course event from Chris Prince by 1 second!
Well Done to Taylor & Roger Gooding who won the short course, followed by Emma Morum.
A big thank you to Alan who was the Start Marshall, and also helped set up the event.

Thanks
Jackie
