Planners’s Report

Thank you all for coming. I hope you all enjoyed your courses. The weather was a bonus. There were a lot of positive comments about the long course particularly the trip into the centre. With an even larger scale I could have had a lot more fun with bridges.

Apologies for the misplaced control 16 on the long course. I think the error occurred when resisting the control when I changed the map scale which puts every control slightly out. I think I moved it the wrong way. Most of you seemed to clock it on the way past but no penalties were given for those who didn't.

In general, I was generous with penalties. There was confusion with number 6 on the long so allowed both the hydrant on the wall and SV in the grass. A couple of lampposts had another close by and given my inaccuracy with control circles, I allowed both. Interestingly only one person on long had an alternative for the lamppost in the park but almost half the short course did. My rule of thumb was if only one person made the mistake, chances are it was wrong. The only exception was the statue of Judge Tindal, splendid though it is, used instead of the foundation stone in the wall further on. It was not close to being in the control circle.

Fastest time on long went to Richard Collyer with sister Ann Roller as fastest woman. On short course, Matthew Wadey was well clear of field even with a penalty and Melanie Sirrett as fastest woman.

David Game takes a significant lead in the Short Course league and Jackie Sibthorp is fighting off a serious challenge from Lyn West, Guy Lidbury and David Lumby in the Long Course league.
