Thanks for turning up on such a wet day to make the effort worthwhile. I hope you liked the format this year - some of you enjoyed being able to complete the course after your competition time was up.

Handicaping is always difficult when you have a format that hasn't been tried before. I doubled the handicaps from the event two years ago and the result was a good mix of ages and sexes in the top ten, with only the younger juniors missing. Congratulations to David Rollins on winning the event.

Thanks to Emily for her help on the day and the the Pughs and their friends with help in getting the controls in.

EVENT
45 minute novelty score. Visit 3 odd-numbered controls, then 6 even-numbered controls, then controls 1 to 9 in order, then any 12 controls (excluding number 9) in any order, within the time allowed. Controls do not bear an indication of their number, so you will need to remember where you are and what you are doing.

REGISTRATION
Complete a registration slip and take it to the registration car with the appropriate fee (Seniors £3 (non-affiliated £4), Juniors and students £1.50. Senior groups £4, SI card hire 75p). Copy the control locations on the map fragment below onto your competition map.

MAP CORRECTIONS
The good news is that some areas are more runnable than mapped. The bad news is that the map hasn't been updated for 10 years...

SAFETY
Take care near water. Please leave your keys with the organiser if you are travelling alone.

START
Near the registration car. Make sure your SI card is cleared before punching the Start. The map ahead of the start will give you the numbers for the control locations that you have copied down. You can start at any time up to 1300, but wait until the previous starter has copied down the numbers from the master map or you will waste time.

FINISH
There is no finish. You will be credited with one point for each of the controls you have visited in the correct sequence within 45 minutes of your start time. Your SI card records only 30 punch times, so if you punch a control out of sequence it may affect your point scoring potential.

DOWNLOAD
Don't forget to download as soon as you get back to the carpark. Download will close one hour after the last start. Missing hired SI cards will be charged at £17 each.

RESULTS
Points will be adjusted based on a handicap for your 2003 age and sex - M21 0 points, M18/20/35 2, M16/40/45 4, M14/50/55 6, M12/60 8, M10/65/70/75 10. Ws will get 4 more points than the corresponding M, and family groups will be assessed by the organiser. If all goes well, your point score will be calculated after you download. If you want a printed copy, ask for an envelope to address. Results will be on the Essex Stragglers' web page (http://stragglers.info) soon after the event.
