Organising these CATI?s has been relatively easy thanks in part to Geraldine?s Organisers Manual (see members resources) and partly because of all the support from other willing club members before and on the day. We had a fine day for our first ?public? event at this venue with even a touch of sunburn to be seen. Not bad after the rain of the previous week. As can be seen from the results we had quite a few newcomers trying orienteering either for the first time or after a long absence. Most were very enthusiastic and enquired about future events so we may see some of them on the membership list shortly. Thanks to all the helpers; Alan Alford, Tracey Apperley, Richard Barker, Dave, Kath, Thomas, Alex Birkett, Family Burgess, Steve Cartwright, Claire, Duncan, Nick Harrison, Nancy Powell Davies, Geraldine Russell, Dave Skinner, Rhiannon, Stephanie Ware.

This was the first time I had planned an event before so it was with some trepidation that I set out the controls hoping the courses would pass the scrutiny of club members and the public. I need not have worried. Everyone who took part seemed to enjoy themselves and I would like to thank Martin Sellens for acting as Controller and all the helpers who collected the controls in again.

Dave Birkett and Family put on a really fun string course whilst showing some new volunteers the ropes and we now have some fully trained club members who can hopefully run the courses themselves. Well done to all!!

The Dragon’s Maze became the Dragon’s Sprint with some fast times over the short 250 metre course.
Joshua Brown’s time has been estimated as it disappeared into the clear box and didn’t come out the other end!

The next SOS String course will be at Wivenhoe Park on 15th June 2008.
