Family fun day with Stragglers' unique relay format


Courses Relay event in a format unique to Essex Stragglers, see Rules below.
Legs of Yellow, Orange and Light Green standard.
There will be a limited number of maps available for individuals and groups not taking part in the relays to run a Yellow, Orange or Light Green course.
Courses are not suitable for pushchairs or wheelchairs.
Manual punching (pin-punch and card) will be used.
Location Please use the Hylands Park entrance off the single carriageway part of the A414 (Writtle by-pass/Greenbury Way) at Grid Reference TL681053. If approaching Chelmsford on the A414 dual-carriageway from Junction 15 of the A12 go past the main entrance to Hylands House/Park and turn left at the first roundabout into Greenbury Way. Car park at Grid Reference TL680047.
Please contact the organiser if you are bringing a coach or other large vehicle.
Map Parkland with some wooded areas.
1:10,000, 5m contours.
Maps will be printed on waterproof paper.
Relay Rules
  1. Teams of four runners must complete four short (yellow), three medium (orange) and two longer (light green) courses.
  2. Each team member must complete at least one course and no-one may run the same course twice. At the start, each team will receive a set of maps, one for each course. The fourth runner will not be able to start until another team member returns.
  3. Scratch teams will start at 12 noon. Handicap will determine start time of all other teams working back from 12 noon. Handicap in minutes as follows:

    Thus a team made up of M18+W40+W45+M55 will have a handicap of 5+11+13+10 = 39 minutes. Start time will be at 11.21.
  4. The Organiser's decision is final.
Entries Entries in advance. Email the completed entry form to dave.skinner@btinternet.com or post to reach Dave Skinner, 26 Woodham Drive, Hatfield Peverel, Chelmsford, CM3 2RR, by 5th July.
If you would like to take part in the relay competition but cannot make up a team please email the organiser dave.skinner@btinternet.com who will attempt to form additional teams in advance of the event.
There will be limited entry on the day for individual runs and teams made up on the day, depending on map availability.
Times Pay entry fees in the Car park from 10.00am. Arrive in good time, bearing in mind that your start time will depend on your handicap.
Scratch relay start time 12.00 noon. Your Start time will be determined by subtracting your handicap from this time - see above. Those not taking part in the relays may start between 11.00am and 12.00 noon.
Start, finish and changeover a short walk from the car park.
Courses close at 14.30 - you must report to the finish by this time.
Facilities Bring a picnic and enjoy a good day out. Water/Squash available at the finish. Toilets in car park. Cafe at Visitor Centre.
Dogs Dogs under control are permitted on courses.
