Stragglers Relays
High Woods Country Park, Colchester
Sunday 8th July 2012
Family fun day with Stragglers' unique relay format

Organiser - Geraldine Russell grmrussell@gmail.com

The heavy rain didn't deter the 9 teams and 10 individuals took part in the SOS annual relays at High Woods. The trophy was won by "Norforever", in 2nd place was "Number 256" with "Chimp" in 3rd place.

Many competitors commented how good the courses planned by Andrew Cordle (assisted by an injured John Williams) were.

Planner - Andrew Cordle

John Williams was the original planner for this event, but in June he dislocated his elbow, leaving the projected controller to take over his duties. Fortunately he had recovered sufficiently by the day of the event to check my control placements - thank you John.

When I started putting out controls on the Sunday morning, some of the paths through the woods had become streams, and the stream under the boardwalk to the SW of the Start had risen almost to the level of the boards. Luckily in the next couple of hours things got a lot drier, believe it or not!

Do you think the event would be better with electronic punching? Let me know. If there is enough support, I'll think about how to do it.

An apology from the Organiser

Unfortunately a couple of teams did not let me know that their last runner had finished which threw the scoring/placings into dissaray so the first three teams are in the correct positions but after that I cannot be sure what times other teams did.

The weather was probably to blame as I was surrounded by bodies trying to get dry and warm and couldn't keep an eye on activities as I would have liked. (And I wasn't going to stand outside in the rain!!!!)

I think that next year I will suggest a bell that the last runner has to ring to let the organiser knows to check and record the time.

So unfortunately I have had to keep only information that I knew was corect on the website.

So I apologise and hope you are not too upset about this lack of information.
