Thanks for comming. What a lovely day! Extra thanks to to Planner and Controller, and to those who helped set up and pack away, especially Sue Clamp who did both and also ran the Start. Thanks too to the landowners for the use of the land and to the Danbury Outdoors staff for their assisitance.

Congratulations to Crossing the Lyne on their victory, and commiserations to those whose efforts were in vain after mis-punching by teammates. I can only blame the sun for the 20% failure rate on the Yellow course.

I hope you thought the electronic punching went OK. It's difficult to see what can go wrong in advance, but I know now that not punching the Start, mispunching, not clearing your dibber, running with a different dibber than the one entered, and late changes to team lineup are all possible! Your feedback would be welcome - please leave comments here.

Planner - Steve Cartwright

It's always nice to go back to Danbury. Living in Chelmsford as a little boy I can remember going there to picnic in the sunshine, play games, walk around the lakes, and in the autumn to collect chestnuts. All very enjoyable.

I think my last attempt at the Danbury relays was controlling for James Lynne on his first planning adventure. Both then and now the staff were approachable and easy to work with, yet one always has to be prepared for the unexpected. Last time it was a group of archers prior to the screens now erected, and although no other groups were booked in, making for a hastily taped out of bounds area. This time it was warnings of quad bikes down the central track, although again no other groups were booked in for the day. It seems booking at the last minute is both possible and to be feared!

I’m glad to hear that people appreciated the courses. Although perhaps the general format was mine in many ways, thanks must go to Kevin for his suggestions and the last minute changes in terms of the controls on each course and the final course lengths.

Apologies that I had to run away on the day after setting out the controls. My athletic club had a childrens event that day and I suffered the difficulty of not knowing who was going. It seemed a bit silly not to go and help when they could have been in serious trouble and I may have only been standing around being sociable and enjoying the sunshine at Danbury !

.

Danbury Park and Lakes is a great place to hold a summer relay, especially when the sun shines. Steve’s choice of start location was excellent as it afforded all an opportunity to rest in the shade in between runs. I would like to congratulate Steve on his courses as they did indeed provide challenge, as well as being fair. The undergrowth taking off in the last month did not help, but I think we managed to avoid the worst. You were all pretty complimentary about the courses, so thank you for that.

Unfortunately, I think too many of you had a bit too much sun, which resulted in only two completely correct finishing teams, the three fastest all managing to miss controls. Three of you did not punch the start which did cause problems with the finish software, and if that had been the only error it would have been tough to disqualify on that basis. Congratulations to ‘Crossing the Lyne’ for their winning run and surviving the heat.

A very big thank you is due to Andrew Cordle as organiser, and for his sterling effort to bring this event into the 21st century. SI punching has been a goal for some time and I think Andrew did a wonderful job, organising everything from the dibbers to the program he wrote to show the running results. Certainly Andrew invested a lot of time in this event and hopefully we can build on this for next year.

Finally, but certainly not least, I would like to thank all of you for turning up and having a bit of fun in the park. It made all the effort well worthwhile.
