The Long Course took us into Highwoods Country Park in the dark – quite a challenge especially when the batteries are failing in your head torch! The glow sticks at the controls were a great help although some commented that the glow sticks were losing their glow. Colin collected them all in and found that they continued to glow until the next afternoon. So note for the future, the glow is only noticeable in the dark and not in the light of your head torch. Well done to Allen who again swept away all the competition.
The Short Course was limited to the residential areas with some unusual controls such as telephone and post boxes. All excellently navigated in the fastest time by John & Lorna Pettifer, which is a great achievement for first timers.
Several people gave answers different from that required, however on further examination the information recorded showed they had visited all the correct controls, so feeling generous, Lyn accepted the alternative answers.
.So many thanks to Colin and Lyn for a good event. We can now look forward to Kevin’s event at Maldon on Tuesday 5th December (details will be posted on Essex Stragglers’ web site).
Apologies for the inaccuracies in the original times posted and many thanks to Allen Smalls who helped me sort them out to what I believe are correct times. Smartphones are not my strong point and I managed to hit the stop/clear button when timing an incoming runner. I had enough notes to reconstruct the event with the aid of Allen’s time (there was an element of guess work in the first attempt). If anyone who timed their run wildly disagrees, please let me know.
