I organised this orienteering event as part of my silver Duke of Edinburgh award. The experience has given me a much greater appreciation of how much work goes into planning and running these events - something I’ve taken for granted previously. On the night, the weather was kind to us and Storm Brendan had passed, so apart from a few puddles, the only real problem was the hills. Everyone got back safely and seemed to enjoy themselves - big relief! One of the fire hydrants gave everyone a challenge as it was difficult to read in daylight, let alone at night. I’ve given everyone the benefit of the doubt on that one. Huge thank you to Chris Childs for all his help and support, Julie Laver for squeezing in an event safety workshop in the nick of time, and my mum for nagging me whenever necessary - it all paid off!
