Well, we finally made it and were able to run our much-delayed event at Danbury Park. What a glorious day it was - the sun shone, flabby limbs were exercised and rusty map-reading skills rekindled. I hope you all enjoyed yourselves even if you did have trouble finding the controls on Steve's challenging courses or simply just missed some.
It was lovely to work with such a willing and accommodating team of helpers, many with years of experience but some just starting. THANK YOU. I also want to thank the staff of Danbury Outdoor Centre for their help and assistance.
But mainly I want to thank all who came and ran, especially for observing the Covid restrictions which gives us confidence for our next event.
It was great to finally be able to offer you the opportunity to run around Danbury Park after more than a year of planning and re-planning. A special thanks to Kevin Machin for his hard work with all the map changes. Its quite a simple area so it took some careful planning to make it sufficiently challenging for the Green and Blue courses. Its also unusual to run on a 1:5000 map in a forest area. I think we’re all rusty after our long time away from the sport so almost everyone found the navigation challenging and maybe a few were suffering from a dip in fitness too. Looking at the results it seems that the few who mis-punched each chose a different leg on which to do it.
Just a reminder to everyone to pay attention to the purple out of bounds areas marked on the map including the ‘forbidden route’ and ‘uncrossable boundary’ symbols. The symbol for an ‘uncrossable fence’ (thicker black line) shown in the map key seems to have not registered with a few. Please do not cross ‘uncrossable fences’.
It was lovely to see so many children taking part and successfully navigating their courses.

Great to see everybody enjoying Steve’s challenging courses and Nancy’s excellent organising. I am sure we all had a bit of COVID rustiness to our technique and have gained knowledge of what to work on for the next event. This event was a long while in the making but was worth the wait. Look forward to seeing you in the forest.
