Overview

This is a line event where controls must be visited in the numbered order shown on the Open Orienteering Map provided (1:10,000 printed on waterproof paper).
● Long Course: 7.0 km 19 Controls
● Short Course: 3.5 km 11 Controls
The courses start at the pub sign at the entrance to the car park (on Mile End Road) and finish at crossing lights, for safety reasons. The controls are fire hydrants, gates, seats or sign posts.
Courses are measured as straight lines between controls. You will run further.

Directions / Parking

The event is from the Bricklayers Arms, 27 Bergholt Road, Colchester CO4 5AA.  

Parking in Mile End Road is advised. Any vehicles using the small pub car park MUST BE REGISTERED in the pub. This policy is strictly enforced. The pub is easily accessible by public transport. It is approx 400m from the main exit from Colchester North mainline station.

Safety Notes

Participation is at your own risk. Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult. Bring clothing and footwear appropriate for the weather conditions. High visibility clothing is strongly recommended. Some paths are uneven and may be slippery. In Highwoods Country Park there are additional trip hazards and overhanging branches. TAKE CARE! As with any urban orienteering which requires participants to cross roads, you are asked to take due care and pay attention at all times. There is a compulsory crossing over the busy main road between controls 3 and 4 and for safety reasons the finish is at pedestrian lights before crossing the same road to return to the pub. There may be dog walkers, cyclists, scooters or residents on pavements and footpaths. Please be aware and give them priority.
