Coordinator’s Report

Thank you all for running in the event at Basildon - Northlands Park on Wednesday. Although pretty cold, the weather stayed dry, and the tricky area of multiple small roads and paths caused some good route choice and ensured you had to keep close contact with the map to avoid getting confused, or worse!

Sorry for the short delay in results being published, but I went down with COVID on Thursday, so have been asleep since then!

There have been a couple of Anytime runs since Wednesday, so I have included those in the results. I will hopefully get the courses up on MapRun soon for anyone who wants to run. There is a 10 min penalty for running anytime, but you do get to run in the daytime, and study the map before your run.

Also sorry for the PIN not clearing from the Long course. If you want to look at tracks on the MapRun results page, then the PIN is 6104.

Gary Chandler won the short course, 13 mins clear of Colin Jackson in second. These same positions were replicated in the Handicap results.

Similar situation on the Long course, where Campbell Walsh beat Guy Lidbury by a convincing margin, and again those results repeated after handicaps applied.

Gary Chandler extends his lead in the Short course overall table, and in the Long, Chris Prince takes over from Colin West at the top.

The next event in the series is this week, Tuesday, at Bocking, Braintree.

We are going to run this event using the MapRun software. Therefore, please, if possible, use a smartphone (or Garmin watch) and ensure you have latest version of MapRun (MapRun6) installed and the course is downloaded to your phone/watch before you arrive.

Note: All competitors will still receive a paper map - no need to squint at your phone to see the route!

Details of how to obtain a copy of the app and how it works can be found on the HAVOC website. There is also a HAVOC user guide there.
Download the course onto the app by clicking on ‘Select Event', and following the menu path UK > Essex > Basildon Northlands Park
The course will not be visible on your phone until you receive the PIN number at Registration on the night. There are no written answers required with MapRun and your result will be automatically downloaded when you finish. The full procedure will be explained at Registration. Note, that if a control is missed then the software will show your result as Misspunch, but in the official results we will add the usual penalty for a missed or incorrect control.

If you are really unable to use MapRun, you are still welcome to take part by completing the control sheet with pen or pencil but be aware that this is a much slower method. With this approach, timing will be manually by a traditional clock, and written answers will be checked as per previous events.
