Explanation of Event levels
Local events are usually low key and in the 'localised' area, ideal for newcomers to try the sport and Training events are non competitive and used for training and coaching, aimed at members of the club, but they can attract people from neighbouring clubs, and are often ideal for newcomers to try the sport. Regional events attract participants from around the local Region, National events are high quality competitions that will attract people from far away, Major events are Major Events such as a British Championships.

Organisers' Report
Firstly thank you to the team of willing helpers who made our life easy.
It was a hot day and ideal for a stroll in the park – however perhaps a little too hot for several kilometres of urban orienteering. I hope you enjoyed your day in the sun and also Eddie’s courses with a mixture of parkland, residential and shopping streets to challenge you. Certainly most of the comments I heard at download were complimentary.
Our thanks also go to ARU for the use of the parking and indoor facilities. Aircon may not be entirely environmentally sound but it was most welcome. Thanks also to Chelmsford City council and a number of private landowners who accommodated the courses and allowed controls to be placed.
Finally much credit should go to John Collyer who undertook the bulk of the initial mapping.
This is the fourth SOS urban venue used after Colchester, Maldon and Harwich. Thank you for coming and we hope to welcome you back to to our Summer Midweek events and to Hatfield Forest on Sept 15th.
There was one item of lost property. A well-worn “Orienteering.ch Switzerland” bag was found on a chair near download. If it is yours please let us know and we will try to return it.

Planner's Report
Planning an Urban Event is a different challenge to planning a forest event with all courses except those for the youngest participants being of Orange (TD3) standard. I tried to incorporate a varied and attractive parts of the city and give as much route choice as I could, so I hope you enjoyed your runs.
ARU as our event centre gave good access to the Chelmer Valley Local Nature Reserve and Springfield Hall Park for both junior courses. On the senior courses a few of you were caught out in finding the high-level control in the station car park. I do acknowledge the several grumbles about the long leg uphill to the Springfield Hall estate (courses 1 to 3), but I thought this estate was a good contrast to include with it’s many alleyways and dead ends.
It’s been interesting to see on Routegadget the variety of route choices for the visit to the wharf area in the SE corner of the map; (courses
1, 2 & 4). Perhaps it would have been better to route course 3 this way too rather than into Central Park.
Many thanks to Bruce as controller for his support and ideas during the whole planning process. Thanks too to John Collyer for his hard work over many months in creating the map and I’m impressed with how Kevin was able to solve the puzzle of how to fit the courses and all the supplementary info onto the double-sided printing.
