EA Urban League

Regional level event

Explanation of Event levels

Local events are usually low key and in the 'localised' area, ideal for newcomers to try the sport and Training events are non competitive and used for training and coaching, aimed at members of the club, but they can attract people from neighbouring clubs, and are often ideal for newcomers to try the sport. Regional events attract participants from around the local Region, National events are high quality competitions that will attract people from far away, Major events are Major Events such as a British Championships.

Organiser's report

Once the initial computer glitches were sorted out, the event seemed to run smoothly. I had problems with importing the entries from Racesignup into SI timing - something I have done many times before without any trouble. As a result I had to make some manual adjustments. Please let me know if this has results in any errors of spelling, etc.

Maldon is a lovely old town and the views over the River Blackwater with the Thames Barges are stunning. I hope you had time to enjoy it. There were lots of positive comments at download so thank you to Kevin and Dean for the courses and to Mike for controlling once again.

Just one disappointment. It was reported that some runners cut across the football pitches marked out of bounds. This is wrong on many counts not least fairness as early runners could not take that route as matches were in progress. It also jeopardises the future use of the park. Areas are marked out of bounds for a reason that may not be obvious but should always be respected.

My team of helpers were brilliant - turning up on time with enthusiasm and going the extra mile to ensure the event ran smoothly. And finally thank you to you all for coming and making all the hardwork worthwhile.

Planner's Comments

Thankfully the day went well. A lot of controls meant early starts for Dean and myself and our wonderful controller Mike.

Thanks for your patience with the slightly delayed start - thankfully, not due to the Planners or the Controller, but due to the quirky running of Sportident on our, now old, laptops.

Planning the courses is always fun and with this event and the extended map, we were spoilt for choice. There are certainly a lot of quirky areas and hopefully you enjoyed the challenge of working them out.Maybe next time we could be stationed nearer the centre of the map and you will be able see the area at its very best.

Thanks, especially to Mike for his inexhaustible patience with me, and to his methodical controlling on the day, Also to Lyn for her organisational brilliance and the team on the day for their hard work and making everything go smoothly, from start to finish, A special thank you to Dean, who is still relatively new to the sport. Hopefully, he will have learnt a good deal and his enthusiasm will go on to inspire others,

Thank you for all your kind words of encouragement, and thank you for taking part.
