SOS/HAVOC Mid-Week Winter Series 2022/23
Local level event
Explanation of Event levels
Local events are usually low key and in the 'localised' area, ideal for newcomers to try the sport and Training events are non competitive and used for training and coaching, aimed at members of the club, but they can attract people from neighbouring clubs, and are often ideal for newcomers to try the sport. Regional events attract participants from around the local Region, National events are high quality competitions that will attract people from far away, Major events are Major Events such as a British Championships.
Terrain type: Urban
A fine evening at the Western Arms to open the Street O series, a good number turned up including several beginners keen to try themselves out with a map instead of a narrative. A rather small area (less than a square mile) thickly populated with fire hydrants (44 at my last count) so maybe scope for another 2 lapper? Chris Prince and Lynn Higgs on the long course and Roy Read and Melanie Sirett on the short course were the quickest on the night by some margin. The sneaky checkpoint 5 on the short (16 on the long) caught a few out, and Richard must be kicking himself that he decided to take his own card instead of sharing with Virginia! See you all in a fortnight in Wickford.
The event will form part of HAVOC/SOS Mid-Week O’ League. Points will be awarded based on finishing times adjusted using an age/gender handicap system. Each missed or incorrect control will incur a 5 minute penalty. Best 6 results from the series will count.
