Organiser/Planner's Report

Well done to all of you who braved the atrocious weather to run your course on the night. Amazingly, I actually had a couple of people say they had enjoyed it! You have all earned your on the night bonus.

There seemed to be more problems with maprun on the night than usual. Whether this was down to the weather conditions or inexperienced planner. It was the first time I had set up maprun and I didn't find it easy getting the controls in the correct place although it seemed to work ok when we checked the sites. Tracks showed that both mp at control 3 on short course had visited the correct site. Interesting this was also control 10 on long course with no mp. The tracks for 2 single mp on long course showed parallel errors and the correct site not visited. A number of people retired - given the conditions I don't blame you. You still get a time and penalties for the missed controls.

The waterproof paper stood up well to the conditions and a lot of people who hadn't seen it tested to the extremes were surprised. Apologies to the one person who's map fell apart. Not sure whether he got a paper copy by mistake. Thank goodness we were using maprun. I would hate to be trying to decipher soggy control cards and half written numbers where pens had refused to write!

Hope to see you at the next event and hope for better weather!
