New Year Novelty

Local level event

Explanation of Event levels

Local events are usually low key and in the 'localised' area, ideal for newcomers to try the sport and Training events are non competitive and used for training and coaching, aimed at members of the club, but they can attract people from neighbouring clubs, and are often ideal for newcomers to try the sport. Regional events attract participants from around the local Region, National events are high quality competitions that will attract people from far away, Major events are Major Events such as a British Championships.

Report

Thanks to everybody who came to the Stragglers New Year Novelty event. We had 68 entries which included 80 participants.

I was particularly grateful to Joe Harwood for offering to organise and to all our helpers on the day. Colin & Lyn West provided excellent seasonal refreshments, the food and hot drinks being particularly welcome on the fine frosty morning.

The eventual format of the event evolved during December after several discussions between Joe and myself and strolls around the park. We hope that you enjoyed the result, which gave both orienteering experts and new-comers a suitable challenge for the legs and the brain!

42 entries completed the base course thus earning the 160 point bonus and most participants picked up some of the extra more cryptic controls. Congratulations to Gareth Radcliffe who obtained the maximum 620 points with over 5 minutes to spare!

We wish you all a very Happy New Orienteering Year!
