Event report
On Wednesday we returned to the Queen Victoria pub, who were great hosts again, where we had another good turnout with 20 people taking on the Short course and 12 on the Long - another event with the Short being more popular.
I tried to offer route choices with Maldon having a lot of streets and alleyways with twisty paths which I tried to take some routes through, along with plotting the Long and Short to cross over each other to keep everyone on their toes! From feedback on the night and from looking at everyone’s tracks, this seems to have worked nicely with multiple routes taken.
This is the first mid-week event I’ve planned and I apologise for a couple of places where the line obscured the paths, I hope that didn’t make things too difficult for you. The software I was using didn’t allow bending of the lines, but I’ve since learnt how to do that by using other software.
Congratulations to Thomas Wood for the fastest time on the Short and Chloe Fowler for the fastest on the Long. After handicaps have been taken into account, Marc Owen and Roy Read claim the 100 points.
This was the sixth event in the Winter Series, so with the best six results counting, this is when the league standings get interesting with people who have done all events needing to improve their score to move up in the results or to avoid being overtaken.
Overview
The courses are now available for Anytime Catch up on Maprun at the link. Completion before February 12th will score points for the Midweek League

Miscellaneous
We are going to run this event using the MapRun software. Therefore, please, if possible, use a smartphone (or Garmin watch) and ensure youhave latest version of MapRun software installed and the course is downloaded to your phone/watch before you arrive.
Note: Older versions of MapRun have experienced some issues withmissed controls and inaccurate split times. Therefore please upgrade to the latest version of the software (v7.5.7 for iOS, v7.5.8 for Android). Information about Maprun is available at here There is also a user guide on the HAVOC website
It is useful to download the course you need before you arrive. Download the course onto the app by clicking on ‘Select Event' in the app, and following the menu path UK > Essex > Maldon. The courses are:
Maldon 2025 Long
Maldon 2025 Short
This is a line event, where you are expected to visit the controls in the correct order. The course map will not be visible on your phone until you receive the PIN number at
Registration on the night. You do not need the PIN number to run using a Garmin watch.
Your result will be automatically downloaded when you finish. The full procedure will be explained at Registration. If the app fails to register your visit to a control, you need to note the lower number on the H sign, or lamp post number. If a control is missed then the software will show your result as Mispunch, but in the results we will add the usual penalty for a missed or incorrect control.
If you are unable to use MapRun, you are still very welcome to take part by completing the control card with pen or pencil, but be aware that this is a slower method. You will be timed by clock, and written answers will be checked. Please bring a pen to mark the control card and a map bag if wet.
