Event 4 Langdon Hills Report

Thank you to the runners last night for the fourth of our summer series, this time at Langdon Hills and the Plotlands. We used the same start for a winter series run, but this one ventured more into the off street areas of the Plotlands and other woodland. A good mix of street and off street running, some interesting route choice and some tricky homemade controls made for some good running. There were some long times, probably due to a couple of areas where the map was a bit vague, and searching for some of those tricky homemade signs. The weather wasn’t great for early runners, but for those of us who got caught in the traffic chaos through the tunnel the weather had cleared up by the time we got there! Thanks to Graham Batty for planning, and organising on the night, helped out by Colin Jackson.

Congratulations to Rachel Read on the Short, a couple of minutes quickest. On the long it was Gary Chandler who took the win, posting the fastest time by a couple of minutes from Chris Prince with the rest of the field 10 minutes further back.

The two winners were the same after handicaps were considered. In the overall tables, those runners who have claimed their 50 point MapRun bonus are obviously doing well, and David Game takes advantage of this to lead by 7 points from Melanie Sirett. With his 3rd win in a row, Gary Chandler moves into the top 7, but at the top it is David Float leading thanks to his map run bonus, 4 points clear of Jackie Sibthorp in second.

Both the short and long courses from last night will be up on MapRun later today, so if you didn't make it last night, then there is still an opportunity to try the courses, and even score points for the league. The courses are available for scoring points in the league until the next event in the series, and then subsequently, along with all the other Essex MapRuns for your 50 point MapRun bonus for the series leaderboard. Just let me know if you do a run, so I don't miss it when calculating the leaderboard scores.

The next event is in Chelmsford, on Thursday 23rd June. Further details of this can be found on the SOS website.
