Event Coordinator’s Report

Thank you to the runners last night for the second of our summer series, this time at Bentley. We used a slightly different format last night to ensure that people could choose their own course around the controls, and indeed choose which to miss out and incur a time penalty on. Thanks to Paul Beckett for planning, and organising on the night. The weather was lovely, and the fields, footpaths and woods of the area provided some good navigational challenges. There were a couple of footpaths that were easier to spot in one direction rather than the other and a couple of tricky controls, especially the telegraph pole in the woods!

Congratulations to Chloe Fowler on the Short, seven and a half minutes quickest. On the Long it was Gary Chandler who took the win, missing out control 8, but posting the fastest time after penalties. Guy Lidbury was fastest gathering all the controls.

The two winners were the same after handicaps were considered. In the overall tables, people entering the two events to date are obviously ahead, so Melanie Sirett leads David Game and Rachel Read in the short course, and Roy Read leads the way in the Long course, ahead of Jackie Sibthorp and David Lumby.

Both the short and long courses from last night are now up on MapRun, so you can try and visit any controls you missed or try to improve your time if you made any errors last night. Or if you didn't make it last night, then there is still an opportunity to try the courses, and even score points for the league. The courses are available for scoring points in the league until the next event in the series, and then subsequently, along with all the other Essex MapRuns for your 50 point MapRun bonus for the series leader board. Just let me know if you do a run, so I don't miss it when calculating the leader board scores.

The next event is in Great Baddow, on Wednesday 25th May. Further details of this can be found on the SOS website.
