Straggler wins at Lakes5

A small group of Stragglers travelled north to the Lake District for Lakes 5 day orienteering event in the first week of August producing some excellent results

The week started with an event on open fell at Askham in north lakes moving to Borrowdale on Day2. Day 3 was at Yewdale, an area of fell between Coniston Old Man and Little Langdale. After a rest day on Wednesday, the event moved to the wooded slopes of Bigland in the southern lakes and finished on the limestone pavement of Hampsfell above Grange-over-Sands.

John Russell was the star for Essex Stragglers winning the men over 85 class coming in as class leader on the first 3 days and 2nd on Day 4. John did not compete on Day 5 but with best 3 results  counting, he was the clear winner. He missed the prize giving but his prize was collected by club mates. Colin West, Club Secretary presented him with the prize at the recent Baddow Ridge event.

Other notable results were Ian Hargreaves, 6th in men over 50 and Lulu Gooding, 8th in girl’s under 16 class.
