Schools Day Volunteers24 May & 26 May

Posted: Tue 22 Mar 2022

Our Schools Days are always incredibly popular with local schools and a great way to promote our sport. Could you spare a few hours (or more) to help? We need lots of volunteers to help make the day run smoothly.

The first two dates are Tuesday 24th May at Castle Park, Colchester and Thursday 26th May at Cliff Park, Harwich. (There is another on 27th June at Notley Country Park.)

We have 444 children booked to take part in Castle Park and 478 at Cliff Park which is a new venue. Most of the children coming along to Cliff Park are from the Tendring area so it will be great to introduce orienteering to so many children from that part of Essex. The children, from years 5 & 6 are booked to attend in two hourly slots from 9.30am – 2.30pm. Set-up will be from 8.30am and we should be packed up and away by 3.30pm. On the day we provide an introduction to orienteering with an instruction session using games and activities, followed by a Score course around the park.

To make the day run smoothly we need lots of assistance with set-up, coaching, marshalling, download, meet and greet, running activities, dibber allocation, handing out maps, starts etc etc. There is something for everyone so please don’t be shy! The club will reimburse your expenses.

We always have a lots of support from volunteers from within the club and outside who make these days such a great advert for the sport. Please let me know if you can help and how much time you can spare. Email : sjpartridge@live.co.uk
